For sure one of the best flying zones of Cuba, with great XC possibilities, the second biggest city at its foot, incredible landscape (a German friend told me that look more or less like Bassano). The going up the hill it is by car. The city has an incredible night life with great places for having a drink and dance, lot of interesting places, beaches, dolphin show and swimming.

(Las Minas)
​
We have all wind in las Minas to fly, but the better ones are from NE to S, especially las Cajitas; where you can easily make small XC flights. Not only the flying zones are good, also the river bath with waterfall and cool pools, incredible landscape, hike and fly or just hike, also you can visit some caves and interesting places. Staying is in rental houses in a bigger town nearby: Jiguaní (Minas is a rural town, no places for staying unless you got a friend there).
​Holguin

Punto Fijo (Cerro Galano)
This place is located very close to the north coast, that’s why it is usually windy, but if you have a good day with low wind it’s a special place for XC flights, it got the 2nd place record of XC in Cuba with 76 km. Hike and flight place with steep way up.

​Guisa
Guisa is a great flying zone, mostly for NE wind (great for XC flight, today it got the longest record in Cuba 103 Km), but the west is the best wind to enjoy good and pleasant afternoon flight with good thermal. It is a medium size town with a lot to offer, also can stay in rental houses. Can do hiking and fly.

Marea del Portillo
This flying zone is located in the south coast, the best coast for flying in Cuba, medium size hills along the coast, with strong thermals allowing doing small XC flight along the coast. It offers beaches and sun and the landscape of high mountains of la Sierra Maestra. The staying can be in The Marea del Portillo resort or rental Houses in Pilón town.

Uvero
Fantastic place located between the Sierra Maestra and the dark color beaches of the south coast. It is not big take off, with a steep way up (usually there is need to rent donkeys to help with the glider in the way up), but it allow the pilot to gain altitude along the high mountains of la Sierra Maestra and do XC along the south coast even to link with Pilón and Marea del Portillo Flying zone. Incredible landscape with view of the sea and High Mountain filled with jungle.
​El Yarey
It is located in the flatlands of the continental spine of the Island can only be used with E wind; but as it is a small, rocky and tiny hill it requires good skills; it is a demanding place but it allows great XC flights with the greats thermals of the flatlands, definitely not for beginners. As it is nearby Jiguaní can be visited while you are staying and visiting Minas flying Zone.

​​El Fraile
​
It is an E-NE flying zone in Holguín city, so you can enjoy the night life of a major Cuban city and also fly there. This place is forbidden to over the 500 meters, because it is nearby of the international airport, so you cannot do XC flight, but can enjoy flying over the city.
Gran Piedra
​
High mountain flying zone, take off at 1200 meters in the Gran Piedra mystic place with incredible landscape and view of the south coast and Baconao valley. The way up is by car. You can make the flight to link Puerto Boniato flying zone.
